13 Years In: Pixel Artist BAN8KU’s Vision of a “Symbiotic” World 🐱
BAN8KU is a pixel artist who debuted in 2013 and is marking his 13th anniversary this year.
His love for ’90s video games led him into pixel art, and he’s since expanded his reach — handling official merchandise for Tokyo Game Show for six years and winning an Excellence Award at the SHIBUYA PIXEL ART CONTEST in 2020.
On the way to this 2026 exhibition, he’s also been involved in projects like the Yuzu album “YUZUTOWN” × Shibuya PARCO pop-up, plus collaborations with TOYOTA, Tokyu, and Shibuya109 — and in 2025, he even created a video installation for the plaza in front of the Shine Hat pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai!
This work’s theme, “SYMBIOSIS,” refers to different living things coexisting while influencing one another!
The piece packs the screen with creatures like cats, bears, birds, and plants alongside robots and symbols of the city — a world where the living and the artificial coexist without distinction 😳
